lil' miss baker

as a departure from my savory dishes, i spent a feverish night baking up a storm thursday night. on my setlist: a four-layer chocolate cakes with a mocha mousse filling and a chocolate ganache-like frosting, a classic sour cream coffee cake with cinnamon and vanilla swirls and topping, and four different flavors of truffles. i was crazy, but that's when i'm most creative and spontaneous.

i decided to write about frozen sashimi after several readers asked me where to go for the freshest sushi in the bay area. my column this week is about how for the past 15 years or so, restaurants that serve fish in the buff need to freeze them first.

not a breaking story, it's been written before. however, since i receive mail about it, i wanted to write about it. so for sushi snobs who swear that their "favorite sushi spot" serve fish out of the sea, hate to break it to them that the fish took a frozen detour before it landed on their dish.
